Skin for Codex
Install Dream Skin assets on Windows.
Windows uses two generated replacement assets, not a full theme configuration. Back up first and follow the pinned upstream Windows engine path exactly.
Prerequisites and exact assets
Last reviewed: July 16, 2026. This guide targets the upstream Windows engine 1.0.0 at the pinned commit linked below. Generate a Windows ZIP containing dream-reference.png, dream-skin.css, manifest.json, README.txt, and NOTICE.txt.
- Codex Desktop on Windows
- A backup of both existing upstream assets
- A generated Windows ZIP
Replace, verify, and restore
Read the package README and follow the upstream Windows engine path to replace exactly dream-reference.png and dream-skin.css. Do not add renderer-inject.js or any executable script from this package. Reopen Codex, verify image and colors, then restore your two backups if needed.
Windows capability and troubleshooting
The current Windows engine does not read theme.json, so skin name, tagline, status text, and quote are deliberately unavailable. If the skin fails to load, confirm the two filenames, upstream engine 1.0.0, path, and CSS replacement before retrying.
