Skin for Codex

Install a Dream Skin package on macOS.

Use the generated ZIP as a reviewed configuration payload, then follow the pinned upstream macOS engine workflow with a backup and restore plan.

Prerequisites and package contents

Last reviewed: July 16, 2026. This guide targets the upstream macOS engine 1.1.2 at the pinned commit linked below. Generate a macOS ZIP containing theme.json, background.webp or background.jpg, manifest.json, README.txt, and NOTICE.txt.

  • Codex Desktop on macOS
  • A backup of the current upstream target files
  • A generated macOS ZIP

Install, verify, and restore

Read the package README, back up the existing target before changing it, then follow the exact upstream engine instructions for 1.1.2. Open Codex after installation, compare it with the simulated preview, and restore the backup if the result is not right.

  • Inspect package files
  • Back up before injection
  • Verify visually, then keep the restore path

Compatibility and troubleshooting

Every generated package is labeled Format verified after passing the pinned upstream structural check. This is a package-format result, not a verified installation on your device. If the background or labels do not appear, re-check the pinned engine version, exact target path, and backup state; only recorded injection, screenshot, and restore checks on a real macOS installation can support a Verified install claim.
